Care center for seniors with Alzheimer's slated

Fort Worth - Austin-based Uncommon Care, a provider of assisted-living services to elderly people with Alzheimer's, expects to begin construction soon on its first facility in Fort Worth.

The $1.8 million, 9,187-squarefoot center, to be called Barton House, is being built at 6939 River Park Circle, off Bryant Irvin Road and Vickery Boulevard.

John Trevey , a founder of Uncommon Care, said it will take about five months to complete the facility. It will be large enough for 20 residents, each with a private room.

Uncommon Care was founded by Trevey and Bob Bouchard in 1994 to provide a residential alternative to nursing home and health care.

The company operates two centers in Austin and one in San Antonio.  A second center in San Antonio is expected to open before year's end.  Uncommon Care is also scouting locations in Houston, Phoenix and Scottsdale, Ariz.

In addition to the Fort Worth location, the company plans to build a facility in Southlake beginning in the spring.

Trevey said the company bought land next to its Fort Worth site for a second facility, to be built when there is demand.
